Councils Say - Identify the right location for Industry

Media Release

22 December 2016

Land Use Strategy needs updating.

During council meetings held this week both Blayney and Cabonne Councils carried resolutions not to support Orange City Council’s proposed change to the Sub-Regional Land Use Strategy which Orange Council requires to rezone land at Huntley – Spring Hill near the Airport to create a general industrial zone.

Instead both Blayney and Cabonne Councils support commissioning a new joint Sub-Regional Land Use Strategy in its entirety, to replace the currently endorsed 2008 Strategy, to identify appropriate locations for industrial use, from the perspective of all three council areas.

Both Blayney and Cabonne Councils stated that had Orange City Council firstly initiated the complete review of the strategy, appropriate locations would have been identified by this date in time.

The Spring Hill and Surrounding Districts Consultative Committee fully supports the decisions of both Blayney and Cabonne Councils and looks forward to working with all three councils with this full review in order to protect the regions vital water sources and avoid fragmenting Australia's prime agricultural land, while fully utilising the vacant industrial sites that exist in abundance within the region with fully developed infrastructure in place.
